How the four gut-health approaches were scored
The original advertorial reviewed each approach in the same order: specification, five criterion scores, an overall assessment, pros and cons, and a final verdict.
The five criteria
The same five questions were applied to NB1, Symprove, multi-strain blends and generic prebiotic or fibre supplements.
Starting-point specificity
Whether the approach starts with information about an individual gut or uses one fixed population-level formula.
Personalisation
Whether biological data changes the product itself, rather than only changing a recommendation.
Feedback mechanism
Whether retesting or another built-in measure can show a before-and-after.
Scientific backing
The relevance of published evidence and expert oversight behind the approach.
Cost and accessibility
Monthly price, waiting time, availability and commitment.
What the review is based on
Current NB1 and Symprove specifications, prices and plan mechanics were checked against their manufacturer information. The two generic category entries vary by brand and retailer, so no exact current price is stated for them.
The review does not report a head-to-head clinical trial. Its scores were supplied with the original advertorial and should be read in the context of the commercial relationship with NB1.
Why NB1 scored highest overall
NB1 received the highest scores for personalisation, the way it uses an individual gut sample before creating a formula, and the availability of retesting. It scored lowest on cost and accessibility and placed behind Symprove on published independent evidence.
That trade-off is the central conclusion of the review: NB1 offers the most individualised process, while fixed products remain cheaper and easier to start.
