Personalised or off the shelf? What the difference actually buys you
Most gut-health products use one fixed formula. Testing-led protocols cost more because they add an individual biological starting point before the product is made.
The case for a fixed product
Fixed live-bacteria and fibre products are available immediately and make it easy to inspect one consistent ingredient list. There is no sample to return and no wait for analysis.
For people who respond well to a standard product, that simplicity is an advantage. Paying for sequencing adds little value if a cheaper option already does what they need.
What changes when testing comes first
A testing-led protocol begins with a biological sample. NB1 says it uses shotgun sequencing to read the gut at species level, then creates the formula after the analysis rather than selling one product to every customer.
That process also creates the option to retest. On NB1 Core, retesting is a paid on-demand add-on; Advanced includes it every other cycle. The trade-offs are a higher price and a wait before the first formula arrives.
Questions to ask before paying more
“Personalised” is useful only when it changes something meaningful. Ask for concrete answers before committing.
